Become equipped with the knowledge and tools necessary for engineering and project management in infrastructure, and build interdisciplinary skills to work with those in all areas of the construction industry.

What You'll Learn

Our students will develop the technical knowledge of construction materials needed for geotechnical and structural engineering; the practical skills of construction methods and implementing the construction design; and the application of technology for managing, modeling, and documenting construction projects.

Gain Hands-on Experience

Our students work closely with professors in our new Miller Insulation Construction Materials Lab to gain the tactile skills and experience that are invaluable in understanding the technical aspects of infrastructure design, engineering, and construction.

Learn Interdisciplinary Skills

Construction engineering integrates the disciplines of construction management, architecture, mechanical, civil, and electrical engineering. To succeed in this diverse field, we train our students to be effective communicators and have technical knowledge and awareness of each discipline, collaborating with engineering students in our other programs.

Make Valuable Connections

We have relationships with more than 50 companies, agencies, and organizations around the region, offering our students the chance to intern and make strong professional contacts.

Anthony Waldenmaier, PhD(c)

Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering

I grew up in Chicago and have lived in Minneapolis, Fargo, and now Bismarck. I have a passion for roads and pavement design as well as the soil beneath our infrastructure. I enjoy cooking, watching football and hockey, curling (the sport), and building things with my LEGO collection.

Michael Douglas, MS

Chair of Construction Management, Assistant Professor of Construction Management

I started as an assistant professor of Construction Management at the University of Mary in 2024. I primarily teach courses in the fields of construction details and analysis, construction estimating, construction scheduling and control, construction safety, and leadership in the AEC. It is a great gift and joy having the opportunity to share my 27 years of construction experience with my students. I pray daily for Jesus' guidance in serving the future leaders of the industry.
